This update to Mezirow's Transformative Learning theory seeks advance Mälkki's enhancement the emotional dimension in phase one—the disorienting dilemma—by proposing need for a complete grief process (as theorized by Kübler-Ross), support movement from conceptualization of “edge-emotions” “comfort zone,” thus removing barrier successful transition two and three—self-reflection critical reflection—the latter considered essential transformative learning process.
